About
The Botanica Eco Lodge is a unique resort located in Michamvi, Zanzibar, with a botanical garden motif. The vibrant garden features palm trees, fruit trees, flowers, butterflies, chameleons, hummingbirds, and other vibrant birds, which is distinctive and special in the arid, sandy terrain of Michamvi.
Location and Accommodation
The lodge is ideally situated between two popular destinations, Pingwe Beach and Kae’s West Side Beach. It is just a few hundred meters from the famous Rock Restaurant and less than 1.8 kilometers from Kae’s West Side Beach, renowned for its stunning sunsets and the welcoming and upbeat atmosphere of the Kae Funk Bar.
In the central garden of the Botanica Eco Lodge
There are three bungalows, each with two separate living quarters, a private patio, a bathroom (with a cold shower), and entrances. Additionally, each bungalow has a solar-powered electric fan and plug, as well as mosquito nets for optimum solitude. For those who prefer more privacy, the lodge also offers a Romantic Bungalow tucked away in the garden.
Facilities and Services
The Botanica Eco Lodge offers a range of facilities and services for the guests. These include a shared swimming pool, 6Mb/s WiFi, an on-site restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and a windswept terrace with hammocks on the top of the main building. After a day spent on the beach or on an excursion, guests can come back to the lodge and relax in the green haven of tranquility and nature.
The lodge garden is designed to be explored barefoot, allowing guests to enjoy the sensation of walking on the grass and the ground. The lodge strives to turn the pebbly Zanzibar soil into a grass-like, stone- and bug-free mattress for maximum comfort.
Transportation and Environment
For transportation, guests can use the daily beach shuttle service to and from the beach, take the local bus that stops in front of the lodge’s gate, or arrange a car or motorcycle taxi from the lodge.
The lodge is committed to conducting business in a respectful and environmentally friendly manner. Following Permaculture principles, the lodge employs natural insect repellents, composts all organic waste to generate soil, farms to enrich the soil, and introduces earthworms to the garden. The lodge promotes and makes it easier for guests to use little to no plastic and collects batteries from the neighbors to ensure they are disposed of appropriately.
The Botanica Eco Lodge is entirely self-sufficient and unreliant on the outside grid. A 20-meter-deep well dug by the lodge provides ample water for the garden and the bungalow showers, and the lodge’s solar system supplies consistent, round-the-clock electric power and lighting for the rooms and visitors.
