Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania branches have changed significantly. On 20 June 2025 Standard Chartered transferred its wealth and retail banking business in Tanzania to Access Bank Tanzania, and it now concentrates on corporate and investment banking. This guide explains what happened to the branches, where personal customers bank today and how corporate clients reach Standard Chartered.
What Happened to Standard Chartered’s Retail Branches?
In 2022 Standard Chartered announced it would leave consumer, private and business banking in several markets, including Tanzania. It agreed to sell that business to Nigeria’s Access Bank, and the handover was completed in June 2025, as reported by The Citizen.
Personal and small-business customers – including those served from former Standard Chartered branches in Dar es Salaam, Arusha and Mwanza – became customers of Access Bank Tanzania. If you held a personal account with Standard Chartered, your branch services and contacts are now with Access Bank.

Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania Today
Standard Chartered remains licensed in Tanzania and serves large companies, multinationals, financial institutions and the public sector through its Corporate and Investment Banking business. According to the official Standard Chartered Tanzania contact page, its corporate office is at International House, on the corner of Shaaban Robert Street and Garden Avenue in Dar es Salaam.
The same page lists separate contacts for trade services, cash services and financial markets for corporate clients, rather than a retail branch network.
Do Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania Branches Still Exist?
For everyday personal banking, no – you should not expect to open a personal account or use a walk-in Standard Chartered retail branch in Tanzania. Corporate clients deal with the bank through relationship managers and the corporate office. Older online lists that show many Standard Chartered branches are out of date.
Be wary of messages that use the Standard Chartered name to ask personal customers to “update” accounts or pay fees – check directly with Access Bank or Standard Chartered through their official websites.
