Grumeti River Camp is a name many travellers still search for, but the camp has changed. The former andBeyond Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp in the Western Corridor was damaged by floods in 2020 and reopened in 2022 as andBeyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge, with suites instead of tents.

From Grumeti River Camp to River Lodge
The original camp operated for many years under earlier names before becoming part of the andBeyond group. According to travel specialists, flooding in August 2020 led to a rebuild, and the property reopened in early 2022 as a lodge. Older reviews and photos may therefore show tents that no longer exist.
The rebuilt lodge has a small number of suites, including a family option. Numbers differ slightly between agents, so confirm the room type you are booking.
Where the Grumeti River camp is in the Serengeti
The lodge is in the Western Corridor of Serengeti National Park, overlooking a channel of the Grumeti River. Hippos live in the pool in front of the lodge, and the river is also known for very large Nile crocodiles.

When to visit
The wildebeest migration usually moves through the Western Corridor between about late May and July, and some herds cross the Grumeti River. Because the river flows all year, there is resident wildlife outside the migration months too.
