The Bank of Baroda Tanzania Limited (BBTL), sometimes referred to as the Bank of Baroda (BoB) Tanzania, is a Tanzanian commercial bank. It is among the commercial banks regulated by Tanzania’s banking regulator, the Bank of Tanzania.

Overview

Bank of Baroda Tanzania Limited works in all areas of commercial banking, inclusive of assisting major corporations, medium and small-sized businesses, as well as individuals. BoB, an international bank headquartered in Mumbai in India, owns BBTL. BBTL’s assets were valued at TZS 170 billion (about USD 76 million) by December 31, 2016. The capital of the shareholder was TZS 35.33 billion (about USD 16 million) by December 31, 2016.

History

In 1956, Bank of Baroda Tanzania Limited launched its maiden Tanganyikan branch. By 1967, It had already established three branches in Dar es Salaam, Moshi and Mwanza. BoB was nationalized in 1967 February.

Bank of Baroda Tanzania Limited was re-established as BoB’s subsidiary in 2004 October, with one branch in Tanzania’s Dar es Salaam. A second branch opened in Arusha 3 years later, in 2007 August, followed by a third branch in Dar es Salaam by 2013 June and a 4th branch in Mwanza in 2014 July.
