Exim Bank Tanzania Overview
EBT is a big financial organization that offers commercial banking services to individuals, medium and small-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as large corporations. According to its yearly report, which was published on the website of the bank in December 2017, the total assets of the bank were estimated to be worth 1.604 trillion TZS (706.5 million USD), taking an exchange rate of 2,270 TZS per dollar, with the equity of the shareholders being valued at 231.454 billion TZS (USD 102 million).
As of 2014 April, EBT ranked as the 5th biggest commercial bank in the nation in terms of assets. The total assets of the bank have expanded to 1.5 trillion TZS (about USD 700.8 million) by 2016 June. EBT boosted its assets to USD 732.4 million after acquiring the assets and business of United Bank Tanzania Limited in November 2019.
Exim Bank Tanzania History
After the liberalization of the economy of Tanzania, a group of businesspeople from Tanzania founded EBT in 1997. It is said to have made a profit within the first 5 months of beginning operations. EBT had completely owned subsidiaries in Djibouti, Comoros, and Uganda by November 2019. In March 2016, it became the 1st indigenous bank from Tanzania to have subsidiaries outside the country. In 2010 April, the Bank of Tanzania approved the bank’s creation of subsidiaries in Zambia and Djibouti, establishing the Exim Bank Group (East Africa) Group, a regional financial services and banking services business. EBT purchased 58.6 per cent of Imperial Bank Limited (Uganda) in 2016 March and renamed it Exim Bank Limited (Uganda). In November 2019, EBT purchased the assets and business of United Bank Tanzania Limited, Pakistan bank’s subsidiary, in November 2019.
