Nakaaya Sumari is a Tanzanian musician and rapper who was born on September 3, 1982 in Arusha, Tanzania.
She is the 1st child in a family of five. Nancy Sumari, her younger sister, was Miss Tanzania and Miss World Africa in 2005.
Nakaaya Sumari Career
From October 1 until December 17, 2006, Nakaaya Sumari was featured as a star in the African Great Lakes region‘s 1st reality TV program, “Tusker Project Fame.” On the program, aspiring singers from Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya lived together and received music business training. On the seven-week course, she only survived five weeks.
Nakaaya Sumari went to Tanzania after the concert to make her first album.
Nervous Conditions, her first album, was released in February 2008. The album was self-released and did well, despite the fact that it was only available on CD. Malaika, one Nakaaya Sumari songs that went on air first, fared well on the radio, but Mr. Politician, the follow-up, was a tremendous success throughout the African Great Lakes area. Nakaaya Sumari‘s popularity skyrocketed as a result of the video’s widespread distribution.
Nakaaya Sumari served as an East African Community goodwill ambassador. After a tour in Denmark in 2009, she got a record deal with Sony BMG. She was nominated for song of the year in Tanzanian at the 2008 Kisima Music Awards for her song “Mr. Politician.” She was nominated for Best Tanzanian Female Artiste at the 2008 Pearl of Africa Music Awards.
